Lt. C. Sanderson

You have reached an information page about one of the men remembered on the War Memorial in Tudhoe Village (read more here).

Please post a comment if you know anything about this man. Thankyou.

Thanks to John G., and to Pam & spoons (GWF) for their help in researching this soldier.

Lt. Christopher SANDERSON
See also Pte William Sanderson, his brother, who I'm told was buried at Spennymoor (Tudhoe) cemetery.

Gordon Highlanders, casualty in 1917.
His wife was in Dundee at the time CWGC records were written, but there seems to be no commemoration of C. Sanderson on the Scottish Roll of Honour.

London Gazette (link) - the notice where his temporary promotion from Sgt to 2nd Lt is published, Feb 1916.

London Gazette - March 1916, where a dramatic description of his actions was published. "For conspicuous gallantry". This was the announcement of his DSO.

Also a mention {mentioned in despatches??} here in the London Gazette 2nd Supplement for June 1916.

As he was a DSO, he also appeared in a book written by the retired General O'Moore Creagh: The V.C. and D.S.O. book.
Entry for SANDERSON, C. (DSO LG 30.3.16)

He was killed in action 18.6.17. His DSO was awarded for gallantry on 3.3.16 at Ypres-Comines Canal.

There is a small picure of him.

(Order of St George Russia, and French Military Cross have also been mentioned in connection with this man. Citations?) His medal card will be quite busy.

Lt C. Sanderson was one of 4 men remembered on the Village Green War Memorial and on a plaque in St. David's church.
Also remembered on the Spennymoor Cenotaph, and at Arras Memorial (Find a Grave has some general images).

Here you can read about an evening of Remembrance (Welcome Home Gathering, May 1919) for the Spennymoor Teachers' Association, in which Lt. Sanderson was one of many remembered.
